Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of DutyLookout (the “Service”), operated by Altered Horizon Ventures Inc. (“we”, “us”). By installing the app or using this website you agree to them.
1. The Service
DutyLookout is a Shopify app that suggests HS/HTS classifications for your product catalog, computes estimated US import duty stacks from a versioned rate database, and alerts you to tariff changes affecting your products.
2. Estimates, not advice
Tariff classification is ultimately a legal determination made at entry. Codes suggested by the Service are drafting assistance to be reviewed by you and, where appropriate, your customs broker. Duty figures are estimates computed from the rate snapshot referenced alongside each figure; actual duties assessed by customs authorities may differ. You remain solely responsible for the accuracy of your customs declarations, for the codes you approve, and for any duties, taxes, penalties, or fees arising from your shipments.
3. Your account and acceptable use
- You must have authority over the Shopify store you connect.
- You may not resell the Service, probe or disrupt it, use it to build a competing rate database, or use the free lookup in automated bulk.
- We may suspend access that threatens the integrity of the Service or other merchants’ use of it.
4. Billing
- Subscriptions are billed monthly through the Shopify Billing API on the plan you select, after a 14-day free trial.
- Cancel by downgrading or uninstalling the app from your Shopify admin; Shopify’s standard app-billing rules govern proration and final charges.
- Plan limits are based on the number of products in your catalog.
5. Your data
You retain all rights to your catalog data. You grant us the license needed to operate the Service — including sending product text (without your shop’s identity) to our AI subprocessor for classification. Handling and deletion are described in the Privacy Policy. HS codes written to your Shopify products are yours and survive uninstall.
6. Intellectual property
The Service, its software, design, and content are owned by Altered Horizon Ventures Inc.. Tariff schedules and rates originate from official public sources; our curated database and its versioned snapshots are our work product.
7. Warranty disclaimer
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that classifications are correct, that rate data is complete or current at any given moment, or that the Service will be uninterrupted.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Altered Horizon Ventures Inc. is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenues, or data — including duties, penalties, or broker fees arising from classifications or estimates. Our total aggregate liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amounts you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim.
9. Indemnity
You will indemnify us against third-party claims arising from your customs declarations, your use of the Service in breach of these terms, or your violation of applicable law.
10. Changes and termination
We may update these terms; material changes will be announced in the app or by email, and continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance. We may discontinue the Service with reasonable notice, in which case any prepaid fees for undelivered service are handled through Shopify’s billing system.
11. Governing entity and law
The Service is operated by Altered Horizon Ventures Inc.. These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Altered Horizon Ventures Inc. is incorporated, excluding its conflict-of-law rules, and disputes are subject to the courts of that jurisdiction.
